Most people in Vietnam wear clothes made out of cotton. There are different styles worn in the north and south. In the north many people wear sandals made out of recycled tyre rubber. In the South many woman and men wear clothing of western style. However some women still wear the traditional "au dai". In some rural areas the women wear loose white shirts with skirts. The men in these areas wear western style clothing.
Rural woman wear coloured embroidered blouses and loose fitted dark pants. Rural and working class men wear simple shirts and trousers. To shield themselves from the sun the Vietnamese wear conical shaped hats. In the cities the girls and women weat a long tunic worn with loose fitting pants called "au dai" . While the men wear western style clothing. An increasing number of urban women are starting to wear dresses and shirts. Typically the Vietnamese wear lightweight clothing.
