The Greek flag has 2 colours, blue which represents the sea (important in Greece), the colour blue is for protection and the colour white which represents the waves on the ocean shore, the colour white means purity.

The Greek flag has a blue cross at the top left corner of the flag; the flag represents the Greek Orthodox Church. It has 5 blue horizontal stripes and 4 white horizontal stripes. The top and bottom of the flag is always blue.  The 9 stripes represent the number or syllables in the Greek phrase Eleutheria H Thanatos meaning Freedom or Death.
